battered by winds and heavy showers, coping with big swings in temperature, but as sweet as June.

walk and bus journey

I take a long walk to the bus via the estuary, just down the road I found these roses. Very similar to the dark rose.

At the end of a bus ride I find Betty's roses, I've just missed the last of the sun on them They smell just perfect.

more on the dark roses, the last of them

rose on the estuary

soft day, low cloud, mild and muggy; the roses by the estuary scented the air.

the impossible rose over 3 days

This rose has proved very difficult to photograph, none of the images actually capture it. If I don't use flash the camera generally refuses to focus. The opened rose is much darker than shown. The scent is extraordinary even when still in bud. This slide show is over three days. The weather has been warm but not sunny, perhaps later in the week I may be lucky and get some lighter shots of the new buds opening. This late flowering is on a huge new stem that has shot up during the summer. Earlier pictures of it show some centres with several spirals rather than one.
